Iman Tahir - General Medicine
Challenges Faced In The Field Of General Medicine:
General Medicine is an important part of the healthcare system worldwide, yet it faces growing challenges that require immediate attention. Globally, healthcare inequality, especially in rural areas, remains a prominent problem. In low income countries basic necessities like clean water, medicines, and a healthy diet is still considered luxury.
Approximately 3.52 billion people are living in rural areas worldwide in 2025. Due to the increasing population in urban areas there has been a shortage of primary care physicians in rural areas. . Overburdened doctors often manage long lines of patients, leading to rushed consultations and increased chances of misdiagnosis.
On the other hand, chronic illnesses like heart disease, diabetes and
Cancer rates are rising due to lack of access to basic healthcare.
Moreover, misinformation through the internet is a barrier to
effective treatment because people started to rely on traditional
remedies and are rejecting professional advice.
Rising healthcare costs is also a problem today in well and under
developed countries, Rising expenses for labor, drugs, supplies,
and technology strain the financial resources of general
medical practices and hospitals. This leads to delayed or
forgone treatment, financial stress for patients, and potentially impacts the overall quality of care. Patients may postpone or avoid seeking necessary medical care due to the cost, leading to poorer health outcomes.
To meet these global challenges, we need not
just improvement, but also equity, education,
And strong policy reforms. General medicine
must evolve to not only treat illness—but to
ensure every patient, everywhere, has a fair
chance in healthcare.
