Catherine Clark - OB/GYN Article

In 2024, it was recorded that over 1,000,000 women had a planned abortion out of 75,000,000

pregnancies. Without proper precautions, our national abortion surveillance will increase from

our last dataset. Obstetricians and Gynecologists, commonly known as OBGYN’s, are the only

careers in the healthcare field that can provide treatment of abortion for women and their babies

in a safe and healthy way. The demand of abortions has put on loaded stress for these Doctors

over the issue of legalizing this treatment for every woman in the reproductive age in the United

States. This conception of abortion policies has been split to two angles: banning the act due to

innocent life being taken away or legalizing it so that women have a choice on pregnancy. On

one side, banning abortion gives babies the opportunity to have life and not be killed in the

womb from procedures. These instances can gain back populations for certain cities or states

and even change the conception for a woman who would’ve originally not had the baby. Ideas

like these can influence others on completely removing abortion as an option to allow for growth

and development for our country and our women. On the other hand, women should be allowed

to make choices for themselves and not for others. Mothers might be reluctant about the birthing

process which is why women should be given the option to decide if they want to keep the child.

The issue over abortion is a widespread debate for not only communities, but also the opinions

of OB/GYN’s who have the knowledge over this topic. In conclusion, the discussion of abortion

can be prefaced by OB/GYN’s, that ultimately deal with the blunt end of the topic, but can be

inferred by anyone that has an understanding opinion.
