Pediatrics

A prominent issue in our society today is the lack of access to basic healthcare for children. Pediatrics focus on improving health and wellbeing of children and infants, especially in low-income countries. Children who live in countries of high poverty rates suffer from the limited health care they receive unlike wealthier countries where children have access to routine check ups, vaccines, and early diagnoses.

According to the UN website, 4.8 million children under 5 years died in 2023. Many of these deaths could have been prevented with access to healthcare. The lack of treatments available for children for pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria are serious killers.

In addition, children mortality rates are higher in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, such as India because of inadequate sanitation and prenatal care. There is also a shortage of medical professionals in these countries which is a huge problem for the health of individuals. This largely affects everyone worldwide because the populations for countries are decreasing because of our actions.

I believe it an obligation to allow children to have complete access to healthcare. It is a necessity especially because our society is advancing every second. They are the ones who hold power in the future generations.
